Valentine's Day at Ciopinot!Today is Day 21 of the 25 Days of SLO Digital Adventure through San Luis Obispo with me, The Leesh!

Today also happens to be Valentine’s Day!  So if you have a special someone (or even if you don’t) I highly suggest that you take a girlfriend or best bud out to Ciopinot. Ciopinot has a special place in my heart. I have shared many happy occasions there over the years including birthdays, graduations and even went there after my (now) husband proposed to celebrate our engagement!

Ciopinot is not only an awesome spot, with great ambiance, spectacular food and world class service, it has some of the friendliest people around! Leonard, the owner, is always at the front, greeting you with a smile. My other favorite thing about Ciopinot is if you bring a local bottle of wine, there is no corkage fee! They also have an extensive selection of wines from around the world and spectacular cocktails. And if oysters are your thing, they have a fresh oyster bar as well!

If you want to know my favorite thing to order.. it’s the crab cakes, followed by the Greek Calamari and Scallops with the mashed potatoes and topped off with the butterfinger ice cream pie! My mouth is watering right now thinking about it. But you have to go to see for you self! Let me know how it goes for you :) Here is link to their website for the full menu!

Enjoy and happy Valentine’s Day!!

day-20-voting-square--SLO-marathon Today is Day 20 of the 25 Days of SLO Digital Adventure through San Luis Obispo with me, The Leesh!

Today is the day we get serious about training for the SLO Marathon and Half Marathon. Last year, I ran in the inaugural race completing my second ever half marathon. It was an amazing race, with perfect weather conditions (cool and misty, but not too cold) as well as the best scenery to match. If you think shopping downtown is cool, try running down Higuera st. with thousands of your closest running buddies right past your favorite restaurants and shops. Then you weave your way in and out of the vineyards through Edna Valley and end up right at the historical Madonna Inn for some after party shenanigans.

If you are a runner, or feel like you want to be, they have a 5k, a half marathon and a full marathon that is amazing. And new this year there is a kids race as well. For more information and to register click here.

So dust of your running shoes, it is time to train to be ready for April 7th!! It is going to be great! I will be there sporting my new shoes! :)

day-19-voting-square---frog-and-peachToday is Day 19 of 25 Days of SLO Digital Adventure through San Luis Obispo with me, The Leesh!

Today, we are rolling out with our glasses in our hands, because it’s Pint Night! Does it feel like the weekend is just too far away? Then shimmy on down to Frog and Peach for some $1 beers to make the work week a little shorter! Yes… I just said $1! All you have to do is bring your Frog pint glass (or purchase one for $5) and you can get Coors Light and Bud Light for $1… in addition to other drink specials throughout the night.

And, they also have live bands playing all the time! I would call to make sure, but Pint night is usually super fun with some sweet tunes.  If you are like me, you will want to dance, which is perfect because there is a nice little dance floor in front of the stage.

Pint Night starts at 7pm, but doesn’t get too busy until around 9pm. For more info and directions go here!

Cheers!

San Simeon Road Trip - 25 Days of SLOToday is Day 18 of 25 Days of SLO Digital Adventure through San Luis Obispo with me, The Leesh!

Today, we are buckling up and heading North… to visit the Elephant seals in San Simeon.

If you have never seen an elephant seal up close, you are missing out. You may be thinking, “OK, but I have seen plenty of seals in my day. What’s the big deal about elephant seals?” But that’s where you are wrong. Elephant seals are just what they sound like, the elephant (aka- humongous) version of the normal seal. The females grow to be up to 900-1800 pounds and the males grow to be 3,000-5,000 pounds… SERIOUSLY!?

The crazy thing is that the Northern Elephant seals migrate thousands of miles twice a year to land just north of SLO in San Simeon along Highway 1. Anyone can drive up and check them out from the viewing point for free! As you can see in my photo below- you can get pretty close!

There are seasonal creatures though… and the best time to visit is right NOW! The pregnant seals arrive around Christmas time and most arrive by the end of January. The “rookery” is where they give birth to their pups, who spend about 4 weeks nursing with their mom. After the pups are large enough to survive on their own, their moms breeds with the alpha males, then retreat to the ocean to build back up on food and nutrients (they fast during their nursing time – which is crazy). Once the pups are old enough (about two months later) they adventure out to see before returning for a visit around October/November. Then the process starts all over again!

Do you want to know some serious elephant seal facts? Where to find them, how big they can get, what food they like? Good! Here is the best site on the Northern Elephant Seal!

Snack Attack at Franks- 25 Days of SLOToday is Day 17 of 25 Days of SLO Digital Adventure through San Luis Obispo with me, The Leesh!

Today, we are in search of the perfect snack and all my senses and my tummy are telling me to go to Frank’s Famous Hot Dogs. Ironically enough, my favorite thing at Frank’s is their mini burgers (especially on Mondays when they are 99 cents all day!) paired with a chocolate shake. But the hot dogs are, of course, amazing as well. They have every kind of hot dog you can think of: the original Frank Dog, cheese dog, kraut dog, chili cheese dog, mexican dog, bbq dog and the seriously amazing bacon dog… and the list goes on!

Frank’s has been a SLO staple since the seventies and is still as popular as ever. If you are feeling particularly brave, you should try your luck at the Mini Burger Challenge… if you can eat 10 mini burgers in a single sitting, you get a shirt and your photo on the legendary wall of fame!

The other neat thing about Frank’s is that they are open seven days a week from 6:30am to 9pm… and their breakfast menu is pretty legit. So come with your appetite and bring friends, you will not leave hungry. :) Full Menu and Location is here!
