25 Days of SLO - Day 6Today is Day 6 of 25 Days of SLO Digital Adventure through San Luis Obispo with me, The Leesh! Today, we are adventuring onto the Cal Poly Campus, for the freshest produce around.

If you live in SLO, you have probably been to the Cal Poly campus at least 100 times, but if you are new to the area (or haven’t ventured to this part of campus) you will be excited to learn about the Cal Poly U-Pick stand!

What is a U-Pick? A “you-pick” is where you can literally pick the fruits and veggies from the vine, tree, plant, etc. It can’t get any fresher than that! Right now, it is winter, so the Cal Poly Organic Farm is selling Satsuma mandarins, which are perfectly sweet and succulent this time of year. Depending on availability and time of year, you may score some other tasty treats as well!

The U-Pick is a fun trip to take your kids on to show them where their food comes from, while burning off a little energy running through the orchard. You can also feel very festive and wintery if you put on some mittens and your scarf and sip on a hot cocoa.

When is it? I would always recommend calling to double check the Fruit Stand “hotline” at 805-756-6778.

I called yesterday and the posted hours are as follows:

Weds-Friday 1:30pm -5:00pm

Saturdays 10am-2pm

Where is it? As you enter the north side of the campus, you will drive right past the satsuma mandarins on your right hand side. The Produce stand set up on Highland Drive

As a former Cal Poly Ag Student myself, please go support the program. All of the produce is Cal Poly student grown!

Stay tuned for to continue on this digital adventure with me during the #25DaysofSLO and vote for Alycia Schaefer for SLO Ambassador!
